Description
Patera. Floor and based molded separately in high relief as attached emblema and disk. Emblema has relief of nude woman, back facing, riding on lion: maenad on panther? Cybele? Base: three concentric rounded ridges. Slipped on all surfaces.
Fabric, firing, surface
Pale reddish orange. Hard, consistently fired; fine, smooth break. Uncommon, well sorted, tiny, mixed red or brown, dark gray, and white calcareous bits. Somewhat thick, even, semimatte slip with faint metallic sheen, bright orangish red. Classic fine Knidian.
Preservation description
One sherd preserves small part of emblema and base. Surface and breaks overall in good condition, with very slight, sparse abrasion and rare specks of encrustation.
