Large trefoil-mouth pitcher. Rim is rounded at its top with a slight groove on rear curves; it is undercut to form band on outer face.Handle extends from rim and curves back to join body near neck; there is curved, quite comfortable, thumb rest right where handle turns down. Two rounded grooves in strap handle from central and flanking ridges.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Pale fabric is likely discolored by marine exposure; gray patches on surface are also likely from marine exposure, because some extend over the breaks. Despite these alterations, vessel likely was fired to a general pale color rather than distinctly dark or red. Fabric is very slightly granular with some angular light calcareous bits visible where fabric exposed.
Preservation comment
One sherd preserves entire rim, neck, and handle with small part of adjacent upper wall. Extensive, moderate erosion and abrasion, so that original surface is mostly removed; worn breaks; widespread specks to thick, rough patches of encrustation. Weathering consistent with long marine submersion.
