Description
Trefoil-mouth pitcher. Neck widened below rim on interior and exterior to form catchment for liquid. Rim is rounded at outer edge, and inner face makes smooth transition to wall; light incision delineates underside of rim from neck. Strap handle has two grooves forming central and flanking ridges.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fabric and surface discolored by marine exposure. Where visible fabric is very fine with no inclusions. Surface was thinly slipped and may have been reddish.
Preservation comment
One sherd preserves rim, neck, entire handle, and small part of uppermost wall. Extensive, moderate abrasion and erosion with pitting; worn breaks; extensive rough patches of white encrustation (with vermetid casings) and scattered black clouding. Weathering consistent with long marine submersion.
