Phocaean Red-Slip Hayes 3
Description
Large bowl. Rim slightly overhangs wall on interior; rather than offset underneath there is more of a groove on lower face of rim. Two grooves, the upper of which is deeper, on outer face. Profile is within range for form, though slightly different tooling that uses a point to make grooves, rather than flat tool to make offsets.
Fabric description
Reddish fabric has occasional small lime chunks. Thin matte slip on surfaces, thick brush marks on interior.
Preservation comment
One sherd preserves ca. 8% of rim and small part of upper body. Slight, sparse abrasion and chipping especially round edges; slight patches of encrustation.
