Forlimpopoli D dated end 2nd-mid-3rd centuries CE (Aldini1999)
Description
Rounded upper body. Tall, cylindrical neck with everted, rounded rim. Arched strap handles attach at shoulder and upper neck. Diameter of rim slightly irregular. Very slight exterior banded ridging; more prominent wheel marks on interior.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Very pale brown; slightly coarse, somewhat hard, smooth to vaguely laminar break; uncommon, varied inclusions: lime chunks; poorly sorted, angular light and dark particles; few tiny bits. Pale, thin, matte slip on all surfaces. One patch of excess clay on exterior shoulder.
Preservation comment
One large sherd preserves rim, neck, two handles, and upper body. Very slight, sparse abrasion and are gouging; slightly worn breaks; sparse clouds of discoloration (postdepositional?).
