Description
Early Roman form produced in northeastern Italy (Forlimpopoli). Ovoid body, tapering steeply to flat (indented) base, with rounded shoulders, cylindrical to truncoconical neck, rounded to rolled rim and tall loop handles, oval to flat and grooved in section. Variations in shape of base, neck and rim distinguish subtypes (A-E). Hard fabric, grayish white, with slightly sandy texture and smooth break, contains small calcareous particles. Distributed throughout Adriatic, Italy, and southeastern Europe, with wider distribution in Mediterranean basin.
