Phocaean Red-Slip Hayes 2A
Description
Shallow bowl. Convex body. Broad tim flaring upward sharply from fine groove at neck has rounded lip and slight raised bands on interior and exterior.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fine, hard fabric, consistently fired pale red with a tinge of orange, with very few light inclusions (calcitic). Thin, matte slip slightly darker than fabric on all extant surfaces.
Preservation comment
One sherd preserves less than 10% of rim and small part of upper body. Slight abrasion and chipping around edges; thick, extensive film of sandy encrustation.
