Typological identification comment
early-mid 5th c.
Description
Large bowl with molded rim. Broad, flat rim flaring to sharp lip hooked downward; angular profile. Slight ridge on interior face before lip; widening on exterior face below lip.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fine, hard fabric with rare, rounded, lime inclusions. Upper face of rim originally bore thick smoothed slip, slightly darker than fabric, now much abraded; underside has thick slip, largely unsmoothed.
Preservation comment
Two nonjoining rim sherds (1011/2169) preserve 15% of rim and small part of upper wall. Slight, extensive abrasion; worn breaks; sparse patches of encrustation.
