African Red-Slip Hayes Form 105
Description
Large plate. Triangular ring foot, slight splayed, slightly offset on interior; one horizontal groove on exterior face. Wide, straight lower wall with concave floor; slight chamfer over foot on floor.
Fabric description
Slight granular deep red consistently fired fabric with few inclusions, rare tiny “lime“ observed. Thick matte slip, flaking in places, on interior; slightly thinner on exterior.
Preservation comment
One sherd preserves ca. 8% of foot and small part of lower wall. Slight to moderate, somewhat extensive abrasion and chipping around edges; moderate patches of encrustation on all surfaces.
