Description
Cylindrical, thin-walled neck. Slightly outward thickened rim; plain, rounded lip. Widely splayed strap handles attach at upper neck at bottom of rim. Mouth is slightly oval from pressing in sides with attachment of handles. Groove around upper neck at level of handle attachment. Fine lines on exterior from wet-smoothing; faint turning bands on interior.
Fabric, firing, surface
Reddish yellow (5YR 6/6) but very surface fired to pale yellow (“buff“). Fine, hard fabric, with smooth break; common, mostly small but a few medium, spherical to subrounded, white (calcareous) inclusions, the larger ones often bursting at surface; rare, tiny, red and dark gray bits; rare small round voids; and traces of mica; hackly to conchoidal break. Wet smoothed. Northeastern Peloponnesian?
Preservation comment
One large sherd preserves 17% of rim, part of upper neck, and upper half of one handle. Large chips from edges but otherwise surface in good condition; somewhat clean breaks; scattered specks of encrustation.
