African Red-Slip Hayes Form 105
Description
Large plate. Somewhat light rim with slightly raised, somewhat flat upper face, convex outer face, and somewhat flat lower face sharply offset, almost hooked. Straight upper wall.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Slightly granular red fabric with uncommon to rare, light, small, subrounded, “lime“ inclusions. Smoothed slip on interior with fine brush marks, thinner less smoothed on exterior.
Preservation comment
One sherd preserves ca. 15% of rim and small part of upper wall. Slight, extensive abrasion; worn breaks; slight, extensive film and etching of encrustation.
