African Red-Slip Hayes Form 105
Description
Large plate. Blocky rim with sloping, flat upper face that forms rounded lip, convex outer face, and mostly flat lower face sharply offset. Straight upper wall.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Slightly granular reddish fabric with occasional small “lime“ inclusions. Thick slip on interior, slightly abraded, with turning bands; matte slip on extant exterior.
Preservation comment
One sherd preserves ca. 8% of rim and small part of upper wall. Slight, extensive abrasion and chipping around edges; slight, extensive patches to film of encrustation.
