A very popular wine amphora particularly in the western and central Mediterranean that derived from Aegean Hellenistic prototypes. Tall cylindrical body with a solid spike, a somewhat low sloping shoulder, a tall cylindrical to slightly flaring neck with a plain, rounded or squared rim, and tall, vertical, bifid handles with a rounded peak. Major production was centered in Campania, but the type was also made in Etruria, in southern Italy, and on Sicily. Peaked during the late 1st century BCE through the 1st century CE.
