A Late Roman-Early Medieval amphora for wine. Short, ovoid body, rilled, with flat base, tall cylindrical neck with triangular or flanged rim with interior ledge (“pulley wheel“), and vertical loop handles, oval in section. Made in southern Italy and possibly Sicily from mid-4th to 7th century. Distribution chiefly in central Mediterranean but also eastward.
