Description
Cylindrical, hollow handle terminates in a collar of two grooves and two bands and a sculpted lion’s head with oval ear, schematic eye, thick, flowing grooves for mane, and small hatchmarks for fur of face and forehead. Vertical molding seam on top and bottom.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fabric: 2.5YR 6/6, light red. Slip: 7.5YR 5/4, brown. Somewhat soft, fine fabric with small, rare, subangular, pink and white inclusions; faint gold sheen. Thin, metallic, semilustrous slip preserved in patches.
Preservation comment
One small fragment preserves small part of handle and front of finial. Deep gouge on lower side; heavy, extensive encrustation.
