Description
Bowl. Narrow, beveled ring foot; pointed underside. Unsmoothed wheel ridges on interior. Spotty traces of glaze on exterior of wall and foot, as well as on bottom of foot, appear to have resulted from dripping; reserved underside; glazed interior. Profile resembles the Corinthian or Attic small echinus bowl or footed saltcellar, but the fabric, wheel ridges, and glazing are atypical.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fabric: 2.5 YR 6/8, light red. Slip: 10R 4/6, red, to 10R 2.5/1, reddish black. Somewhat hard, very fine fabric with frequent, very small, black and white inclu-sions. Semilustrous to dull slip, flaky, varying in thickness and color. Wheelmade. Imported.
Preservation comment
One large fragment preserves almost entire base and small part of lower wall. Moderate abrasion, gouging, and pitting; very slight encrustation.
