Description
Imported wheelmade fine-ware fish plate. Thick, slightly flaring ring foot. Thick floor rises with slight convex curve from central concave depression. Two concentric grooves mark transition from central depression to rest of plate floor. Glazed interior and semiglazed exterior with dripping down to bottom of foot in places. Reserved underside.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fabric: 10R 6/6, light red. Slip: 2.5YR 4/8, red, to 2.5YR 2.5/1, reddish black. Hard, very fine clay with uncommon, very small mica and frequent, very small, black and white inclusions; scattered voids. Thin, uneven slip, slightly flaky, varies in color. Argive?
Preservation comment
One fragment preserves ca. 50% of base and floor. Heavy abrasion and slight pitting; very slight, sparse encrustation.
