Kenchreai IV RC22e Amphora
Description
Amphora. Rounded shoulder. Loop(?) handle, oval in section, attaches at shoulder and up to neck. Red dipinto in cursive script across upper shoulder, up to turn to neck and alongside handle.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Pale pink core and interior, buff surface; consistently fired. Very fine, hard; smooth break. Very rare, tiny, black and gray(?) bits; rare, small, subrounded, white (lime) inclusions; rare, small, rounded voids; dense, tiny golden mica flakes. Finely smoothed surfaces but excess clay around handle.
Preservation comment
One large sherd preserves large part of upper body and shoulder with lower attachment of one hand. Slight, sparse abrasion with chipping; worn breaks; extenseive, thin, gritty encrustation.
