Description
Small amphora or large jug or jar (note heavy construction). Sloping shoulder; cylindrical lower neck. Lower, wide corrugation on upper body. Graffito with one surviving Greek letter in thin, shallow strokes inscribed after firing, across upper shoulder near joint with neck: Π.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Pale reddish yellow, inconsistently fired to pale red at surface. Medium fine, hard; granular break; slightly bumpy texture on surface. Uncommon, tiny to small, somewhat poorly sorted, mostly dark bits; rare, small, subangular, white (calcareous) particles; very rare, small, subangular, pink to red (feldspar?) chunks; faintly micaceous at surface; uncommon to common voids, mostly small and rounded but rarely elongated, in breaks and surface.
Preservation comment
One large sherd preserves ca. 35-40% of upper body and shoulder. Slight, sparse abrasion with minor chipping; worn breaks; extensive, thin film of encrustation across exterior surface.
