Amphora. Rounded shoulder. Cylindrical neck bulging slightly in middle to upper area. Loop handle, angular oval in section, attaches at middle neck and shoulder. Red dipinto in large letters across lower neck and upper shoulder.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
2.5YR 6/4, light reddish brown (interior surface and core; exterior slightly more pale). Hard, fine to slightly gritty, consistently fired; smooth break. Uncommon, well sorted, tiny black bits; rare, well sorted, subrounded, small, white (calcareous) particles; rare to uncommon, small golden micaceous flakes visible at surface. Thin, even wash slightly more pale than fabric; consistent wet-smoothing.
Preservation comment
One large fragment preserves ca. 30% of upper shoulder, 45% of lower to middle neck, and one complete handle but lacking rim. Very sparse abrasion; worn breaks; very thin but extensive film of encrustation.
