African Red-Slip Hayes Form 105
Description
Plate. Ring foot, triangular, with groove on outside face and low ridge on inside. Straight flaring lower wall; distinct step on floor just inside circumference of base.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Slightly granular, pale red fabric with occasional, small, lime inclusions. Thick somewhat smoothed slip on interior shows broad brush strokes; exterior heavily encrusted, slip less well smoothed where visible.
Preservation comment
One sherd preserves 17% of base and large part of floor. Slight, extensive abrasion with pitting and chipping around edges; worn breaks; thick encrustation across bottom and specks across floor.
