Amphora with rounded wide body. Form is not inconsistent with Aegean amphoras of Early to Middle Roman era, though overall, the profile and fabric are somewhat generic. It is the combined size of the joined pieces that draws interest.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Very pale reddish brown fabric with uncommon, small light inclusions, occasional rounded calcareous chunks, few glistening bits, and other tiny inclusions. Voids visible in breaks. Exterior surface is somewhat smoothed with very thin wash. Interior entirely plain with turning grooves. The presence of rounded calcareous chunks in the soft pale fabric can suggest a regional source.
Preservation comment
Five large joining sherds and one small non-joining sherd preserve ca. 35% of lower body toward base. Slight, sparse abrasion and faint scratching; clean breaks; very rare scattered specks of encrustation.
