Description
Shallow plate with splayed ring foot, flat to slightly convex bottom, and vertical rim, sometimes concave and sometimes flanged below. Floor often adorned with a circle of rouletting and a central planta pedis. Zhuravlev separates the common shallow plate in Pontic Sigillata (=Hayes Form 1) into several morphologically distinct types, including his Forms 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.2, 1.3.1, and 1.3.2.
Chronology comment
Crimean examples of Zhuravlev Form 1 date primarily ca. 50-100 CE, but forms 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 apparently can stretch into the early 2nd century (Zhuravlev2010, pp. 41-42/118).
