Description
Prototype: Zeno, 474–491 CE. There is considerable overlap of gold foil beyond one edge of the prototype coin. The latter’s diameter was 11–12 mm, which is exactly that of Zeno’s small AE4 (10–12 mm). Gold tremisses would be too big (13–14 mm), and it is not clear why one would make a bracteate of a gold coin anyway.
Preservation comment
Wear: aVF. Slight torn edge; surface in good condition but crumpled.
