Hybrid form showing rounded edges on rim and high foot (Hayes 90) but no stepped floor and vague blockiness to rim (Hayes 105)=Bonifay2004 Sigillée type 47 variante B1/type 57 variante A (end 6th-beginning 7th c.)
Description
Large plate. High ring foot, slightly splayed and narrowing downward, with rounded resting surface; two horizontal grooves on outer face. Wide flaring, straight walls; no chamfer on floor. Knobby rim with sloping, slightly rounded upper face, convex outer face, and rounded lower face with slight offset.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Slightly granular fabric fired reddish, with occasional relatively large angular dark inclusions. Thick, even, matte slip on interior, thinner on exterior. Typical for late ARS.
Preservation comment
Three nonjoining sherds, one preserving preserving 18% (0271) and two preserving 16% of rim (2783, 2784), represent full profile. Slight, extensive wear and flakes chipping around breaks; extensive film of encrustation.
