- Description

Distinctive product of Late Antique Athens. Typical form is pitcher false ring foot; tall, narrow, ovoid body; cylindrical neck with slightly everted rim; short, vertical, grooved loop handle; and dense, parallel or perpendicular overlapping gouges over upper to middle body. Soft, orange red to pale brown Attic fabric; dip-slipped to lower body with darker reddish to grayish or purple, dull, even finish. Regional distribution including th4 Corinthia. Imitations known in northeastern Peloponnese in a distinct fabric: orangish red, slightly coarser with red, black, gray, and lime inclusions and faintly golden micaceous.
