Late Roman to Early Byzantine form produced across Palestine, from the Plain of Sharon to the Judaean Hills and Galilee to Idumea. Predecessors were made in the same region during the 1st to 2nd centuries, and derivatives (q.v.) were made in Egypt and (later) Jordan through the 7th to 8th centuries and the Umayyad and Abassid caliphates. Sagging, globular body with wheel ridging, a vertical rim with simple lip, and small ring handles at the shoulder.
